‘We Split That’ – The politics of splitting hairs

As this post is being written the 2016 primary process has been decided in Wisconsin (The Badger State).

voteheresign2016
A “Vote Here,” sign hangs just outside a Wisconsin polling place, as the 2016 primary process is settled their today (photo courtesy of WKOW)…

And as the process kicks further into the middle of New England and the Central United States as well as the remainder of the Mid-West and West I can’t help, again, but to be reminded of the movie, “Fargo” and the epic lines between the two kidnappers in that movie. Particularly this one. Watch.

And how this entire primary process has been nothing more than the politics of ‘We Split that’. What does the politics of ‘We Split that’ mean?

“Arguing about an inconsequential or trivial aspect of a task or issue…”

All throughout this process we have been regaled with the rules and regulations concerning the two-party system here in the United States of America by pollsters and pundits alike.

And it all adds up to just one thing, splitting hairs. When Hillary Clinton looses (or wins) a caucus or even a primary process like she did not all that long ago in Michigan (The Trojan State) its ‘We Split that’- meaning the delegates, BUT because I’m Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and Senator for New York and oh well hell former First Lady of the United States and before that First Lady of Arkansas, working mom, Grandma extraordinaire, etc. etc. I get more, am supposed to get way more, delegates than you Bernie Sanders; you goddamned pinko-commie-socialist-turned-temporary-in-name-only-Democrat. Now dry up, fuck off, bugger off and go away! Bastard.

And so it goes…

John-Kasich-Headshot
The Honorable John Kasich, Republican Governor of Ohio, 2016 Campaign for President photo…

And the same can be said on the Republican side of the ledger. Trump, Cruz or Kasich win one or more than the other it is soon-enough arguing ‘We split that’ in terms of their delegates.

Remember though what happened in 2012, during the Republican primary process, it was down to Republican Congressman and OBGYN Dr. Ron Paul, M.D. of Lake Jackson, TX. USA by way of Pittsburgh, PA. USA and Mitt Romney, former Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? And the infamous ‘Republican National Convention screw-job’ in Florida? Remember that? Watch.

Anyway, it came down to just two people then in the 2012 Republican party primary process. Dr. Paul and good old Willard Mittens Romney, the former Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Romney was what the political establishment is today. He embodied it. Watch.

And we all remember how this happened in the State of Louisiana when a Ron Paul supporter and a delegate for the state’s Republican party had his hip broken and he was arrested by police for attempting to lodge a complaint at a local party meeting. Watch.

Splitting hairs is violent, no? History repeats itself, no?

Especially when the so-called political establishment doesn’t get its way.

Threat. Innuendo. Summation. Lies. Aspersions on one’s asparagus.  And splitting hairs politically, just so ‘the other guy’ can get his or her (as the case may very well be) way.

Split hairs much?

If Hillary Clinton is so ‘inevitable’ WHY the need to lie, cheat and steal in the 2016 Democratic primary process???

Editorial: We’re told there’s nothing to it. That accusations of cheating in the 2016 Democratic primary process are nothing more than ‘fevered dreams’ under a full moon-lit night. A chance for those of us who support Bernie Sanders to throw something up against the wall and see if it sticks when it comes to Hillary Rodham Clinton and her political scandals. And if it didn’t, if their were, by some amazing chance, no sticking power such would be fine. I’d move on, so to would a whole lot of other people, and that would be the end, Hillary Clinton would be standing on top of the steps at the South entrance of the US Capitol on January 20th 2017 being sworn in as our 45th [and first female] President of these United States of America. Case. Closed.

REMEMBER: “Democrats fall in love. While Republicans fall in line…” Or something like that, right?

And we were, all of us; free-welding, fun-loving, Good Time Charlie Democrats who had fallen in love with (and outta love too) Bill and Hillary Clinton over and over again, right?

But what I can’t figure out is, is with all this so-called ‘era of inevitability’ WHY the need for Hillary Rodham Clinton to cheat?

I mean she’s so inevitable, right? The people love her. She’s ahead in the delegate count. As well as the Super Delegate count. So why the need to cheat Madame Secretary, this election was yours to lose in the first place anyway. Right?

The best answer I can come up with is: Fear.

Fear of loosing power. Loosing a political foothold over the people who love her so. Almost like an Ancient King or Queen of old in the last throes of their rule and reign.

“Believing,” that they are loved by the people all the while believing differently in their own hearts and minds. Knowing differently. Knowing better.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is a political potentate  in the last throes of her rule and reign, she knows it – all to well – and she is willing to pull out all the stops to ensure absolute and “total victory”. No sacrifice is too great. No cost to small. Consequences be damned.

Nasty much?

Lecturer n Chief (The SCOTUS Nomination)

Editorial:

Yesterday. Our Commander n Chief stepped to the podium in the White House’s Rose Garden along with the Vice President and formally presented/nominated US Federal Judge Merrick B. Garland to the US Supreme Court. Watch.

A little while ago I messaged the President congratulating his Administration on formally nominating Judge Garland, BUT I also spoke to him about this lecturer n chief tour that he seems to be on when it comes to the “US Constitution, law and government,” as I put it to him.

lecturernchief
Then Constitutional Law Professor Barack H. Obama, II teaching a class at the University of Illinois at Chicago (photo courtesy of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s School of Law, c. 2003)

Relishing, it would seem, the opportunity to teach rather than lead. WHY? What’s the point? To most of us who know and give more than a tinkers damn about law and process we are well aware of the government’s first best duties here when it comes to such a process as naming a judge to the highest court/bench in the land.

We don’t need a lecturer n chief we need a President. That’s why I compelled him to take off his professorial hat for a minute and just be President of the United States of America. And act.  [I mean he’s ACTED on everything else, right? So. Why not this?]

Move on this issue rather than lecture the American people about law and process. Respectfully. Watch.

These days though Washington, D.C. seems to be filled to overflowing  with lecturers, teachers and Constitutional Law Professors. WHY? What’s the point? Your bona fides is duly noted. We don’t need how-to’s on law and government. We need movers and shakers. Folks that will do the work that the American voter sent them there to do in the first place.

HERE’S THE THING: The US Senate is supposed to “Advice and consent,” here:

“[The President] shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the Supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.” – “Advice and consent clause,” [US Constitution] Article 2, Section 2 (Wikipedia)

And the above and titled from Wikipedia sums up my message to the President today. To my elected representatives in Washington, D.C. We don’t need lectures or lecturers we need actors! Movers and shakers who will go to Washington and do the work, truly, of representative government. Democracy. In action. Period. Full stop.

You don’t have to like or approve of a thing that this President does. BUT you do have to extend to him and to the American people who twice elected him the courtesy of giving his judicial nominee(s) a hearing in the judiciary committee and then a fair and impartial up or down vote on the floor of the US Senate.

Vote no IF you don’t want Judge Garland on the bench. [It’s your prerogative.] BUT vote. Do your job! And keep your mouth shut. The both of you. Damn. I’m so sick of this crap folks. This is exactly WHY I am fast becoming turned off to politics and voting in the USA.

I don’t need or want lectures. I need action. It’s that simple.

Judge Garland is, by all accounts, a fair and even-handed jurist. And it just so happens that he’s the judge that presided over the federal trials of long-convicted domestic terrorists Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City Bomber and the ‘Unabomber’ Dr. Ted Kaczynski.

My good God in heaven I don’t think you can get much better?! But yet and still somehow we’ve got those who wish to lecture US, We the People, on what they know and don’t know. What is and isn’t of benefit to us.

And I am so sick of it. #DoYourJob: The both of you, President Obama and Congress, and keep your mouths shut.

Did you catch what Bernie Sanders said at the CNN #DemDebate last week???

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – All in all it was a pretty good night for Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, at least, at the first Democratic Debate for the Presidency of the United States last week.

Very civil, and eye-opening things were said by the candidates under the hot lights at Wynn Las Vegas.

WynnLasVegas

Full Disclosure: I am supporting Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in [our] quest for him to become the next President of these United States of America. And I absolutely love, respect, and admire Mr. Steve Wynn – Owner and Operator of Wynn Resorts, Hotels & Casino Properties. IF there was ever a story of Americana it is the Steve Wynn story. The guy is an icon in the hotel and casino business, and the quintessential business man of the modern age. Just my opinion.

Here’s where you may well be asking: Rhett how can you love, respect and admire Steve Wynn a Capitalist and Bernie Sanders a self-avowed, self-professed Democratic Socialist?

640px-Bernie_Sanders_2016_logo

Simple. Because I believe in the full disclosure, and fair treatment of all. No one man or one thing is an island unto themselves. Beyond reach or scrutiny. And neither Bernie Sanders or Steve Wynn are such. They are not perfect. And are never, ever above reproach. And because they are, and as much as I; love, respect and admire Mr. Bernie Sanders, I have to wonder where the Senator’s head was at when he said this. Watch!

And under normal circumstances I might just agree with Mr. Sanders entirely and completely. Having no qualms for doing so. But there’s this little thing you see called the, let me see what was the name of that erstwhile federal law enforcement agency again, ah yes! Now I remember. The FBI and there ongoing federal investigation ran, by the way, entirely out of the FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. in concern of Mrs. Clinton and shall we say her peccadilloes into global avarice, but I digress.

Note to Bernie Sanders: You see Senator Sanders whenever an American citizen can or would be guilty of a crime or crimes – presumption of innocence not withstanding – against the People of the United States of America well then that’s when the FBI steps in. They get, what I hope, to be warrants obtain evidence, surveillance, wire-tapping, etc. etc. et al. et al., and investigate said person, place or thing.

Apparently, and this’ll kill ya Senator, the United States Department of Justice, who commissions the FBI to investigate, thinks that Mrs. Clinton needs to be investigated, starting from way back in the late summer of this year.

The FBI is concerned over some, shall we say, inconsistencies surrounding Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email server(s) that she used at her home while still being the U.S. Secretary of State, particularly during that whole Benghazi affair.

And it’s been my experience, and it may well be yours too sir, that whenever the United States Department of Justice thinks things awry that they will commission the Federal Bureau of Investigation to, well, investigate. Despite public reservations to do otherwise.

It’s strange I know sir, BUT it’s the way in which the laws of our land work. ‘Damn emails’ be damned.
